The Munich Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies offers a structured doctoral programme in East and Southeast European area studies. It is located at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU). Five additional academic institutions in Munich with expertise in East and Southeast Europe take part as associated partners. From 2012 to 2019, the German Research Association (DFG) funded the Graduate School as a part of the German Federal and State Excellence Initiative. Since the Excellence Initiative ended, the Graduate School has continued its successful programme in both Munich and Regensburg as two separate entities: the GS OSES^LMU and GS OSES^UR.
