"Urban Memoryscapes: Strategies and Tactics, Activists and Entrepreneurs"

Based on Michel de Certeau's concepts of strategies and tactics, Daniela Koleva will examine two cases from post-communist Bulgaria: the Monument to the Soviet Army in Sofia and a local contested monument in Sandanski near the Greek border. She will demonstrate the limited applicability of Certeau's concepts and will suggest a hypothesis about different types of agency in constructing public memory in the urban environment.
