Imperial Apocalypse: The Great War and the Destruction of the Russian Empire

25.11.2014 18:15  – 19:45

On November 25, 2014 the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies welcomes the historian Joshua Sanborn in Munich. He will be giving a talk about "Imperial Apocalypse: The Great War and the Destruction of the Russian Empire".

Joshua Sanborn will be giving a lecture based on his recently published book, Imperial Apocalypse: The Great War and the Destruction of the Russian Empire. He will discuss the ways that military operations and martial law transformed social and political life in Russia, first in the borderlands and then in the empire as a whole. He suggests that the war produced a crisis of decolonization, complete with manifestations of state failure, social collapse, and, eventually, claims for national independence.

The lecture is part of the Graduate School's lecture series "Forum" and open to the general public.
