"Is there Weak Nationalism and is it a Useful Category?" - Diese Frage stellt und beantwortet am 25. Juni 2015 Maria Todorova im Kolloquium der Graduiertenschule in Regensburg.

Introducing the category “weak nationalism,” this talk emphasizes the scales of intensity and the different operational modes of nationalism across time and space. It argues to extend the research focus beyond the fixation on extreme cases to so called weak or weaker manifestations that remain subordinate and underresearched, all the time stressing the changeability of nationalisms in their local context and in the course of time.

Prof. Dr. Maria Todorova ist Professorin für Ost- und Südosteuropäische Geschichte an der University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Die einer breiteren Öffentlichkeit vor allem für "Imagining the Balkans" (1997) und ihre Debatte mit Holm Sundhaussen über den "Balkan"-Begriff bekannte bulgarische Historikerin forscht insbesondere zur Geschichte Südosteuropas in der Moderne (häufig unter sozialgeschichtlichen Gesichtspunkten) und zu Nationalismus. Einen Einblick in ihre Nationalismusforschung gibt sie heute in Regensburg.
