"Russia's Great War and Revolution in Northeast Asia: New Findings and Interpretations"

Tuesday, 30 April 2019, the Graduate School in co-operation with the Chair for Russian/Asian Studies at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität welcomes Professor David Wolff, PhD (Sapporo) to its public lecture series "Forum" in Munich. Wolf will give a talk in English language on "Russia's Great War and Revolution in the Far East".
David Wolff, PhD is Professor for Russian and Soviet History at the Slavic-Eurasian Research Center at Hokkaido University in Sapporo (Japan) and globally renowned expert in Russia's and the Soviet Union's relations with "the East", especially in the history of Siberia and the Far East, the Cold War era and the Northeast Asian region construction. He was awarded his PhD from the University of California at Berkeley in 1991. From April to May 2016, Wolf was a Visiting Fellow at LMU Munich's Center for Advanced Studies upon invitation from Professor Dr Andreas Renner.
Wolff studies Russian history in the late Imperial and Soviet periods. He has published widely on Russia's relations with "the East", including the Russian Far East, China and Japan. He has edited the English translations of articles by more than a dozen of the top Japanese historians of Russia, including Professors Hara, Takao, Tomita, Wada and Yokote. His articles in Japanese have also appeared in books edited by some of these renowned scholars. He is the author of "To the Harbin Station: The Liberal Alternative in Russian Manchuria" (Stanford, 1999; Kodansha, 2014), co-author of "The Interkit Story: A Window into the Final Decades of the Sino-Soviet Relationship" (Woodrow Wilson Center Press, 2011). His most recent co-edited volume is "Russia's Great War and Revolution in the Far East: Reimagining the Northeast Asian Front, 1914-1922" (Slavica, 2018).
The lecture is part of the Graduate School's lecture series "Forum" and the "Oberseminar" of LMU's Chair for Russian/Asian Studies; it is open to the interested public.
