Project "Leyb Kvítko or Lev Kvitkó? Ein jiddischer (Kinderbuch-)Autor zwischen jüdischer und sozialistischer Revolution" funded for three years

The DFG supports the project conducted by Caroline Emig, M.A.

17.02.2020

Prof. Dr. Sabine Koller successfully secured the financing  of the research project “Leyb Kvítko or Lev Kvitkó? Ein jiddischer (Kinderbuch-)Autor zwischen jüdischer und sozialistischer Revolution" by the DFG.

The goal of the project is to highlight the life and work of the underresearched soviet-jiddish author Leyb Kvitko (1890–1952) and his contribution to the soviet-jiddish (children's book) literature. Apart from questions like his identity ("jiddish Kvítko or russian Kvitkó?"), his conformity to the soviet system and an intermedial analysis of his work (since most of it was illustrated) this project wants to show Kvitkos role for projects of Jewish cultural autonomy and the socialist reforging ("perekovka") of man. Through this the project will contribute to the remembrance of the history of the 20th century.

This research project will be conducted by Caroline Emig, M.A. (University Regensburg), associate doctoral researcher at the GS OSES.
