Third Annual Conference on the Culture of the Russian Revolution and Its Global Impact

International Conference in Munich will explore June 2-4, 2016 the semantics, performances, and functions of the Russian October Revolution 1917

The third annual conference of the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies "The Culture of the Russian Revolution and Its Global Impact: Semantics – Performances – Functions" will take place in Munich from June 2-4, 2016. It will be dedicated to the 1917 Russian October Revolution.

Besides several young scholars from or linked to the Graduate School many interationally renowned researchers will deliver papers. Keynote-lectures will be given by Boris Kolonickii (European University at St. Petersburg), Yuri Slezkine and Alexei Yurchak (both University of California, Berkeley).

Taking stock of current research and worldwide debates among historians, slavicists, and scholars from other disciplines, the conference is going to explore the interrelation between revolution and performance, the rhetoric of revolution, the revolutionary semantics of religious beliefs, the perceptions of the revolution particularly in East Asia, and its global impact.

The Third Annual Conference will be opened Thursday evening in the "Senatssaal" at LMU Munich's historic Main Building (Geschwister-Scholl-Platz 1). The panels on Friday and Thursday will take place at the IBZ Munich (Amalienstraße 38).
