"Future Challenges to Authoritarianism Research": Panel Discussion with Adele del Sordi in Hamburg

28.06.2018

On May 18, 2018, Dr. Adele del Sordi, post-doctoral researcher at the Graduate School of East and Southeast European Studies at Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich, participated in a panel discussion on the "Future Challenges to Authoritarianism Research" in Hamburg. The public round table was organized by the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA).

Adele del Sordi introduced the main arguments and recommendations from her recently published book "Research, Ethics, and Risk in the Authoritarian Field", co-authored with colleagues from the University of Amsterdam’s research project, “Authoritarianism in the Global Age." The lively panel discussions were moderated by André Bank, senior research fellow at the GIGA Institute of Middle East Studies as well as a speaker from the IDCAR network (International Diffusion and Cooperation of Authoritarian Regimes).

The open-source book "Research, Ethics, and Risk in the Authoritarian Field" is a collective reflection of the authors’ experiences in seven different countries. Adele del Sordi was a significant contributor and inspiration at the public round table, encouraging the continuation of such research on political regimes in which the majority of people around the world live in today. The book is available online through Palgrave Macmillan.
