New Publication: "Res publica Europa"

"Res publica Europa:" Professor Dr Christopher Balme, Professor of Theater Studies at LMU Munich and Principal Investigator of the Graduate School, and Axel Tangerding, artistic director of the Meta Theater in Munich, co-edited the new book "Res publica Europa. Networking the performing arts in a future Europe." It presents contributions in both German and  English stemming from recent meetings of the International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts. The authors are reflecting on issues of the public and in politics within the context of a crisis-ridden European identity and are providing insights into its staged productions.

About the book

Quo vadis Europa? Europe, where are you going? Where is the free scene? In a climate marked by Euroscepticism, what is the capacity of independent performing arts organizations, whose concept of work is based on values such as tolerance and openness? Are these values constitutive for Europe and how can they be strengthened? These questions have been the focus of the International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts' (IETM) meetings in Munich, which are documented in this bilingual book. Central to the reflections on the role of performing arts in Europe are postcolonialism, diversity and visions for the future.

How can extremely different national and regional cultures be presented theatrically and extra-dramatically? The contributions reflect discussions on issues of the public and in politics within the context of a crisis-ridden European identity and provide insights into its staged productions.
