Jasmina Tumbas, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor at the Department of Global Gender and Sexuality Studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo and Honorary Research Associate of the Graduate School. As Visiting Research Fellow she stayed at the Graduate School in Munich from December 2018 to January 2019.
Tumbas was awarded her PhD at Duke University in 2013 and received her master degree at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her research interests include feminist history and theories of performance, body and conceptual art, especially with regard to socialist film, gender and sexuality in post-Second World War Eastern Europe (with a focus on former Yugoslavia) and contemporary activist art of ethnic Roma in the Balkan region.
At the moment, Tumbas works on two books about "The Erotics of Dictatorship: A Visual Exegesis of Gender & Sexuality under Yugoslav Socialism" and "Media Violence, Ethnic Roma, and Art: Feminist Resistance Beyond Citizenship". On 19 December 2018, Tumbas spoke at the colloquium about "Ethnic Roma in Fortress Europe: Art and Resistance Beyond Citizenship".
